Working in collaboration with Cartwright & Gross, we were tasked with gaining planning approval for circa 350 apartments in Ancoats, Manchester.
The site is dissected into 2 equal sized plots by an existing road and is bounded on one side by an elevated railway.
The proposed scheme offers 2 similar buildings consisting of 2 distinct interlocking forms in direct response to the immediate context.
A low level street block continues the urban grain and relates to adjacent buildings in terms of height, scale and materials.
The second, larger block, is set perpendicular to the railway for privacy and provides enclosure to south facing communal gardens.
